To accept this award the recipients are asked to do a few things:

  • Share 7 things about yourself
  • Award 10-15 blogs you feel deserve the award
  • Contact these bloggers and let them know about the award

Seven Things About Me:

1. My middle name is Hope, not my first. I was named after my great grandma and was always going to be called Hope no matter what. My parents left the other name to my oldest sister. She thought it would be cool to have her best friend and her have sisters with the same name, so that is where my first name came from. Needless to say it didn't sound good as a middle name so it became my first. However, I will not tell you my first name because I'm very fond of Hope!

2.  Growing up I was a "cheer queer". I loved cheerleading and still do, I put my heart and soul into it. As I said in a previous post, I secretly want to be a cheerleading coach. Watching the all-star squad practice at my daughter's gym is totally giving me the itch.

3. I was on the Food Network for Fairy Tale Brownies when I was in College. These really are the most amazing brownies out there(my favorite is the toffee one)!!! I can't believe they actually put me in the show. I was one of those people trying the food and saying how great it was. The funniest part is I'm scratching my nose or face with my middle finger as I'm talking... CLASSY. I guess that's what nerves do to you on camera. EMBARRASSING!

4. I love to ski. Anytime I have the chance to ski, count me in!!!

5. One of the things on my bucket list is to run a half marathon. One of these days soon I'm going to do it. I would really really like to have a running partner while I train!

6. I have 3 sisters... I am number 3 out of 4 girls in my family. We didn't always get along when we were young but as we all have gown up we love each other dearly and would do anything for each other!

7. I have the most amazing husband in the world and 2 great kidlets, I adore my family!!

I would like to pass this award onto the following Stylish Blogs:

  9. Cheerleading? I was never a cheerleader, but I remember in high school I secretly wanted to be one. With my personality, though, it just would have never worked. I was not one to get up and be noticed in a crowd. Too shy and insecure back in those days!

My oldest daughter's passion is cheerleading. She was on a competitive cheer team for two years when she was 12 and 13 years old, and they went everywhere to compete. They even took second place in the nationals. I loved watching her up there doing the routine, but I HATED the competitions because I had to be there pretty much the entire day...just to watch her up on state for her 3 minute routine. Ugh, it was such not the family-friendly sport! Unlike soccer, where the game is over in an hour and you go home, the cheer competitions took all day. Even though her team had just one routine, you had to get them to the event early...and then stay all the way through the awards. I always had to bring all of my little ones with me, and the arenas charge per person entry fees...so it cost me a small fortune just to be there. Parking fees, too. And the tuition for her instruction and practice time? Yikes! Not to mention those uniforms, which cost a pretty penny, too. But it was all totally worth it. I would do it again in a heartbeat. She loved it so much, and watching her up there for those 3 minutes during her routine made it all worth it. She only did two years because once she got older, they required "tumbling skills" and since my daughter (this would be the one with the brain injury) could not turn a cartwheel, she got cut from the team once that became a requirement for all girls on the team. It was so sad, too, because she had a lot of spunk and energy and did her "facials" perfectly (that's the term they use for all the facial expressions they are required to do during a performance) and so it was sad that she could not continue on simply because she could not turn a cartwheel or do a flip. But that's how competitive teams work. We are very happy she was able to do all that she did during those two years, to be on an actual competitive cheer team was a dream come true for her. She was the only one on the team with a disability (her right arm does not work, and she walks with a slight limp)but yet her coaches worked her right into the routine so that it was not an issue. She looked...normal out there. I usually hate the word "normal" but in this case, it's just true. Although her cheer career was short-lived, she had made a goal and reached it, and now at the age of 18, she looks back on those years with fond memories. She is proud of herself for accomplishing one of her dreams. And we are, too :)
